The feet are your foundation, your base of support. They are the part of your body that engages the ground with every step you take. If there is a problem in your foot, the rest of your body will not be properly balanced.
Foot problems, such as bunions, heel spurs, and plantar fasciitis, respond very well to chiropractic care - even when surgery has been recommended by another health professional. These problems typically begin with biomechanical dysfunction in the foot - stiff joints and weak muscles.
The stiff joints and weak create stress and abnormal forces in the foot - causing the tendons and ligaments to become frayed and irritated (plantar fasciitis) or to pull too hard on the heel (heel spurs). Abnormal forces can also cause the bones in the foot to become displaced (bunions).
Foot problems do not only affect your feet. A problem in your feet, such as stiff joints, flat feet, or weak muscles, will cause a chain reaction of imbalance up your body that affects your knees, hips, low back, shoulders and neck. This imbalance reduces athletic efficiency and makes peak performance difficult. This imbalance also increases the risk of injury. You may not even know that there is a problem with your feet. However, the feet are your foundation. Without a solid foundation, there cannot be strength, alignment, or balance in the rest of your body.
Scott T. Sheriff, DC is specially trained to evaluate your feet. Foot pain may seem to be the same in different people, but the exact cause of your pain is unique to you. Our assessment determines the true source of your pain. We begin the examination by taking a print of your foot.
Have you ever had a scan taken of your feet while you were standing in one place? This type of scan doesn't make much sense to us. It doesn't give any information about how the joints in your feet are moving, muscle weakness, or imbalance while you are walking.
At Tiferet Chiropractic, we take a print of your foot while you are walking. This shows us your foot in motion, when proper form is most important. A walking print gives an incredible amount of information on joint movement, muscle weakness, and foot type. It is an invaluable assessment that helps us build a stronger, healthier you.
Following the walking foot print, we thoroughly examine the joints of your feet - looking for joints that are stiff and moving too little and joints that are overly flexible and moving too much. Both cause foot problems. Finally, we evaluate the muscles of your feet to determine if muscle weakness is contributing to your pain.
Once we assess the true cause of your unique pain, we create a treatment plan specific to your needs. We correct joint stiffness in your feet with gentle mobilizations. We address frayed and irritated tendons and fascia using special deep tissue massage techniques. We strengthen the muscles in your feet with home exercises. This special combination of therapies creates a stronger foot and lasting relief from bunions, heel spurs, and plantar fasciitis.
Furthermore, improving the biomechanics of your feet reduces the risk of injury and degeneration in other parts of your body - and makes running and athletic performance more efficient.
