Gentle Care
Chiropractic treatment involves gentle, hands-on care to assist the body in the healing process without the use of drugs or surgery.
At Tiferet Family Chiropractic we use a variety of treatment techniques - including low-force manipulation - to improve motion in the joints. Every person is unique and not every case requires the typical high-velocity chiropractic thrust. Low-force techniques work with the muscles and other tissues that surround a stuck joint and gently guide them to release in the proper direction. By working with the body, instead of fighting against it, the treatment is more comfortable for the patient and the results are longer lasting.

Chiropractic Care
Aches, pains, and stiffness are signs that your body isn't quite working right. A sudden injury or repetitive stresses over time create a cycle of muscle tightness, restricted joints, and irritated nerves that can be difficult to break.
A chiropractic adjustment - whether delivered in a specific, highly accurate thrust or a low-force manipulation - is applied to stiff spinal joints in order to restore proper motion. The adjustment also gives input to the nervous system to help correct muscle imbalance and reduce nerve irritation. The result is less pain and improved movement.

What You Can Expect
The first visit usually takes about one hour or so. I’ll sit down with you and we’ll just talk for a few minutes about what brought you into the office. If it’s some kind of pain, we’ll talk about the pain – how it started, where it hurts the most, what makes it feel worse. I’ll also ask about how it affects your daily life – how things have changed because of the pain, what kinds of activities it stops you from doing. I want to know the things that are important to you so that I can help you get back to doing them as soon as possible.
After we talk, I’ll perform a thorough examination. The purpose of the exam is to find the true cause of your problem - it's not always where you feel the pain. I’ll check your nerves by testing your reflexes and muscle strength. I'll measure your range of motion and check for muscle imbalances. Then, I’ll gently press on your spine and other affected joints to see which areas are not moving the way they should. Finally, I will perform a series of orthopedic tests to help me determine the true source of the pain. Treating the true source of the problem gives us the best chance for long-term success.
After the exam, we’ll talk again. I’ll go over the findings from the exam, explain what I can do to help you, and answer any questions that you may have.

The Healing Process
The healing process can be divided into two stages. The first stage is all about getting you out of pain as quickly as possible. I like to take things slow and gentle for the first treatment – so that you can get used to things and feel comfortable with a new doctor. I’ll use deep tissue massage and some kind of therapeutic modality (moist heat, ultrasound, muscle stimulation) to relax the muscles and reduce pain and inflammation. Then I’ll restore motion to the parts of your spine that are not moving quite right by using my hands to gently guide the tissues in the proper direction. Releasing the joints helps the irritated nerves and sore muscles to heal on their own.
The second phase of treatment is about strengthening muscles and improving posture. It’s about strengthening your spine and fixing the true source of the problem. We’ll meet once every week or two and after the chiropractic adjustments, I’ll work closely with you in the rehab room. You’ll learn simple exercises to strengthen your core muscles and improve your posture in order to take some of the pressure off of your neck, low back, and pelvis. Getting to the root of the problem by strengthening and restoring proper motion to your spine will reduce the risk of the same problem happening again in the future.
