Chiropractic Care
Chiropractic is a natural health care discipline.
Chiropractic is gentle and effective.
Chiropractic care is personalized to your unique needs.
Aches, pains, and stiffness are not a normal part of life – they are signs that your body isn’t quite working right. A sudden injury or repetitive stresses over time creates a cycle of muscle tightness, restricted joints, and irritated nerves that can be difficult to break. Chiropractic works because your body is self-healing. By applying a precise force to stiff spinal joints, proper motion can be restored. Then your body can begin to heal on its own – nerve irritation will subside, your muscles will relax, and you will feel like yourself again.
Chiropractic care emphasizes the relationship between the spine and the nervous system. Since the nervous system extends to nearly every part of your body, chiropractic can be beneficial for a wide variety of problems. It’s an effective way to conservatively treat neck and back pain from many different causes – muscle stiffness, arthritis, disc degeneration, stenosis, and sciatic nerve irritation. Chiropractic can also help with headaches and TMJ dysfunction, as well as shoulder, hip, knee, and ankle problems.

What You Can Expect
The first visit usually takes about one hour or so. I’ll sit down with you and we’ll just talk for a few minutes about what brought you into the office. If it’s some kind of pain, we’ll talk about the pain – how it started, where it hurts the most, what makes it feel worse. I’ll also ask about how it affects your daily life – how things have changed because of the pain, what kinds of activities it stops you from doing. I want to know the things that are important to you so that I can help you get back to doing them as soon as possible.
After we talk, I’ll perform a thorough exam. I’ll check your nerves by testing your reflexes and muscle strength. I’ll gently press on your spine and other affected joints to see which areas are not moving the way they should – it’s not always the place where you feel the pain. Then I will perform a few orthopedic tests to help me determine the true source of the pain. Treating the true source of the problem gives us the best chance for long-term success.
After the exam, we’ll talk again. I’ll go over the findings from the exam, explain what I can do to help you, and answer any questions that you may have.
The healing process can be divided into two stages. The first stage is all about getting you out of pain as quickly as possible. I like to take things slow and gentle for the first treatment – so that you can get used to things and feel comfortable with a new doctor. I’ll use deep tissue massage and some kind of therapeutic modality (moist heat, ultrasound, muscle stimulation) to relax the muscles and reduce pain and inflammation. Then I’ll restore motion to the parts of your spine that are not moving quite right by using my hands to deliver a quick thrust (this is called an “adjustment”). Releasing the joints helps the irritated nerves and sore muscles to heal on their own. Many people feel 50 percent better after the first treatment and 80 to 90 percent after three weeks (some cases may take longer).
That last 10 percent takes a bit longer. The second phase of treatment is about strengthening muscles and improving posture. It’s about strengthening your spine and fixing the true source of the problem. We’ll meet once every week or two and after the chiropractic adjustments, I’ll work closely with you in the rehab room. You’ll learn simple exercises to strengthen your core muscles and improve your posture in order to take some of the pressure off of your neck, low back, and pelvis. Getting to the root of the problem by strengthening and restoring proper motion to your spine will reduce the risk of the same problem happening again in the future.
